Nana Komachi refers to seven legends of the princess Ono Komachi of the Heian period that were taken from Noh plays. These legends were often the focus of Kabuki or Ukiyo-e in the Edo period. Here, the princess wears a striped kimono that would have been popular hundreds of years after she lived.
