The series matched local specialties from around Japan with portraits of beautiful women. In this one, Number 38, shows a beautiful woman, or bijin, about to tweeze her neck while her two cats -- a Kuniyoshi specialty -- frolic nearby. The inset shows a seascape of Totomi Province, where the specialty was the bladders of fish caught in the Sunomata River.
